#1 – “I do” Amber

Ingredients:

  • 1 lbs crystal malt, English 2 row
  • 6.6 lbs Dry Malt Extract (DME), CBW Sparkling Amber
  • 0.5 oz water treatment salts (magnesium & calcium sulfates)
  • 1.5 oz Cascade hop pellets
  • 12 oz Muntons Active Brewing Yeast

Steps:

  • Steeped grains in 1.5 g boiling H20 for 5 min. Added DME, hops, salts. Boiled 30 min. Cooled and added cold H20 to 5.5 gal. Pitched yeast in 100F 1 cup water 10 min, then added.
  • 5/31/14: Temp 64F, bubble stopped
  • 6/1/14: Racked to carboy. SG 1.020. Tastes like beer.
  • 6/8/14: 1.016, small bubbles
  • 6/15/14: Racked to bucket. 3/4c priming sugar boiled with 8 oz H20 5 min. Sanitized bottles in StarSan. 23 12oz bottles and 15 22oz bottles.
  • 6/25/14: Tried our first bottle. Not bad. Maybe too much carbonation. Clear amber color. Light hoppy flavor, but flavor was a little weak.
  • “I do” Amber improved over the first couple of weeks after the first bottle. No bad bottles so far.
