#30 – Oatmeal Stout

Based on Brewing Classic Styles Mcquaker’s Oatmeal Stout

Stats:

  • 5 gal
  • OG: 1.054
  • FG: 1.015
  • ABV: 5.1%

Ingredients:

  • 6.6 lb Brewers Best Light LME
  • 1.1 lb organic instant oats
  • 0.75 lb chocolate malt
  • 0.75 lb victory malt
  • 0.5 lb crystal 60
  • 0.5 lb roasted barley
  • 1 tsp Irish moss @ 15 min
  • 1.8 oz Kent Goldings (1oz new at 4.4%, 0.8 oz old at 4.8%) @ 60 min
  • 11g Nottingham Dry Ale Yeast

Steps:

  • Steeped grains in 140F 2.5 gal H2O for 45 min. Read darker malts should be steeped at cooler temps, although it crept up to 150F by the end. Poured hot H20 over grains after pulling out in bag. Very waterlogged. 1.054 OG. Rehydrated yeast per packet. Agitated wort then poured on top.
  • 1/18/21 – Strong fermentation within 24h @ 70F
  • 1/31/21 – 1.014 @ 68F. Racked to keg. Roasty ale, not bat at room temp. Very British so will keep CO2 low.
